The Escalade's "cool" factor carries weight in many classes and social levels, everyone from pimps to business executives oogle and ahh over Escalades, so it has a much higher demand, so the price is higher. (the slightly better fuel economy helps as well)

The Hummer on the other hand, is only seen as "cool" within a smaller social group, and it is hated by others your "environmentalists", etc. so the feelings for it are a few loves and a whole lot of hates, whereas the Escalade has a lot of likes all around. so less demand (as well as lower fuel economy) equals lower price. I feel the Hummer craze was also mostly a fad for the most part.

The problem is, the Hummer H2 and H3 had an Identity crisis in the fact that they had no real purpose. It has the underpinnings and overall building blocks for a good oilfield rig (actually did see one hauling drill stem in Wyoming) or used for your search and rescue operations, offroading,etc. but it carried a persona and price tag targeted towards urban jungle expeditions. basically a off road trail rig sold at a inflated price to city dwellers. of course your high price screams exclusive, so some folks had to have it.

both are based on the tahoe chassis, but the hummer version is slightly revised for strength. so reliability is similar. the overall fit and finish is higher on the escalade, and the aerodynamics are by far better on the escalade than the hummer.

my opinion? if you live 50 miles out in the sticks with some junk roads to your place, go hummer, but if you do alot of highway travel, go escalade.
