When is the best time, in terms of driving conditions, to use 4-high and 4-low on a Hummer H3?

4H and 4L anre 2 diffrent situations..4L is used primaraialy for "offroad use" or Verry low speed pulling!! 4L usualy is limited to 35-45Mph any faster you risk damage to your trasnfer case,trany,or motor since you RPM will be much higher in 4L..4H is for more "street use" in extream slick conditions rember that your front wheels are pulling too so they need somthing to pull at..Ps NEVER use you 4 wheel drive expecialy 4L on dry concrete you can do major damage to your locking hubs and your front diff..I know from experience.hope this helpsWhen is the best time, in terms of driving conditions, to use 4-high and 4-low on a Hummer H3?the vehicle is in 4WD high all the time, this if for normal every-day driving, and also for slick roads, light to moderate offroad use, and other low traction situations that do not require extra torque, just power to all the wheels.



4-low should only be used in severe offroad situations, and for extracting the vehicle when 4-high doesn't work. This position should also be used when extra torque is necessary such as heavy pulling off-road (recovering another stuck vehicle) this position is also handy when going down steep hills offroad, as it provides excellent engine braking so you don't have to ride the brakes down the hill. Same applies for going up hill, this position allows for more torque at lower speeds which allows you to go up steeper rougher hills than you could in 4-high.
