Does a Prius really polute more than a hummer?

I have read that due to chemicals used during assembly of the electronics that go into the hybrid drive and batteries that a prius actually polutes more than a H2 hummer. the study showed that including production and driving for both the H2 and Prius, that one year driving a prius is equivelent to driving the H2 for 3 years.Does a Prius really polute more than a hummer?Yes but no one really wants you to know this I have studied this some to and what they are talking about is what it takes to produce and manufacture the batteries for this car. pretty interesting that if you take all things into comsideration the prius is worse.Does a Prius really polute more than a hummer?
Urban legend. "Studies" I have seen on this subject have been completely false and based on incorrect assumptions and bad research. For instance, they make the assumption that a Hummer will last 300,000 miles while the Prius will only last 100,000 miles, on which there is no basis for truth.

Does a Prius really polute more than a hummer?Uh huh, Best Answer goes to the guy who says what the poster wants to hear, even if it is complete BS. The other two posters both give solid answers.

I am sorry to say that I agree with steved9991' comments. The research was done by a bogus individual. I have read that report too, and is riddled with loopholes. In fact I read it before I bought my Prius about a month back.

Does a Prius really polute more than a hummer?CO2 is not causing global warming :) do some research, and if it is, no one really knows if it will cause a catastrophe. odds are it will help more than harm. and if it is happening we are not really the biggest factor. so in the end, both cars suck.

I assume you're talking about the "Dust to Dust" "study" that was done by a marketing group. That study was shown to be extremely flawed, and the short answer to your question is that no, Priuses do not pollute more than Hummers. Not even close.

Nicke plants can pollute on a local scale, but it's just that - local. Also the nickel plant discussed in articles about Prius vs. Hummer hasn't polluted since 1994:

The study did not show that one year of driving a Prius is equivalent to driving a Hummer for 3 years. What the study did was ASSUME that Hummer drivers would drive 3 times as much as Prius drivers and incorporate that into their calculations, which is totally bogus.

There are several websites devoted to discussing the problems with the Dust to Dust study. Here's one if you're interested in the details.
Dana is absolutely correct, and puts it very succinctly. The other point that should be brought up is that the "article" that reported on the "Dust to Dust" study was not even an article at all. It was an opinion piece editorial written by someone in the Detroit, MI paper - and being from Detroit, guess where his loyalties lie? Most of his editorials were printed in the Detroit Free Press and were rabidly anti-hybrid in their tone. That particular editorial has been spread all over the internet as a factual piece of research when in fact it was never that in the first place, and the study that it "reported" on was proved to have used junk science in its formation. After it is proved to be nonsense, the editorial disappears for a while, and then resurfaces a few months later and the whining, moaning and groaning starts all over again.

Thanks, Dana, for shining the spotlight on this nonsense.
