Does GMC stand for General Motors Company? What do they have to do with Hummer? Do they design the vehicles or parts of them?
Someone said today that GMC had nothing to do with Hummer and I'm dying to prove them wrong. What does GMC have to do with Hummer?GMC is a division of General Motors. It actually stands for Grabowsky Motor Corporation. It was one of the brands consolidated into General Motors - Chevrolet, Cadillac, Pontiac, etc. were all separate manufacturers at one time. Hummer is one of these divisions now. The name is used under license from AM General, who made the H1 and still makes the military HumVees. Also, the H2 is assembled at their plant in Mishawaka, IN. The H2 and H3 do share parts with other GM vehicles but there are differences. For example, the H3 comes with a 5-cylinder engine that is different from other GM SUVs. Although the Vortec engines are available too. Other differences in the suspension are in the Hummers to make them more off-road capable. The H2 and H3 are designed by GM.What does GMC have to do with Hummer?

every single part of the hummer is gmc and if you want more info, they use the same engine and transmission in the suburban, so hummer has the exact same problems, i have repair a lot of them.
The General Motors Company (GMC) is the parent company of many brands of vehicles, including the Hummer division, along with Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Pontiac,SAAB and Saturn vehicles.
YES, that "someone" is wrong, wrong, wrong!" And, you are right!
GMC also has its own vehicle division for "more rugged" and commercial - grade vehicles, primarily SUVs and trucks.
GMC was commissioned by the Army to build a rugged, "go anywhere" type vehicle for the first Bush Iraq war (circa 1991). Once unveiled to the public, this slow, bulky, heavy, gas guzzling behemoth was a hit with folks who wanted a bigger SUV at any cost. Celebs (Arnold Schwartzennegger) Motorsports Racers (Kenny Roberts) became high profile buyers, thus the legend was born.
For current model information go to www.hummer.com (or better yet direct your friend to): www.gm.com for more Hummer info. Get them to put up some real reward before definitively proving them wrong. Dinner or cash is always nice. What does GMC have to do with Hummer?
Hummer sold their brand to GM. GM then redesigned the Hummer's H2 and H3. Hummer is GM now regardless. I don't think Hummer has anything to do with them anymore, except the badge of "Hummer."
GM is the company that owns GMC, Hummer, Saturn, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Isuzu, Saab, Buick, and Oldsmobile.
GMC Envoy and Hummer H2 share the same engines.
gmc has not and still does not own A.M.GENERAL corp.
they buy the h-2 and h-3 from am general, place them on a gm frame and stick their gm badge on the front fenders.
the H-1 still has the AMERICAN MOTORS badge molded into the quarter panels.in fact gm has to pay JEEP for the use of the grille everytime an h-2 or h-3 sells.the only thing gm supplies the H-1 with is the diesel engine and allison
transmission. i drove the H-1 hummvee in the army and
in the guard. one of my off road friends owns a 2006
H-1 and nowhere does it say gm. it says AM GENERAL.
hope this helped clear up the misconception.
good luck
GMC stands for General Motors Corporation. This is the name of GM, the car company, and also GMC, the upscale truck brand.
Many questions relating to GM brands are asked in this section. Since Hummer is a GM brand, questions about it are generally asked here. Same with questions about Buick, Cadillac, Saturn, etc.
THEY ARE MADE BY GENRAL MOTORS, THE H2 AND THE TAHOE ARE ON THE SAME FRAME
